Providing Diagnostic Imaging Services to 10 Gauteng Medical Sites

About Us

Burger Radiologists is a diagnostic imaging practice providing professional services to 10 Gauteng medical sites.

Burger Radiologists was established by its founder, Dr Faan Burger, when he opened his first practice in 1986.

Our Radiologists have skills in general Radiology, as well as various sub-specialities of Radiology.

We pride ourselves in patient centered, cost effective imaging.  Our staff are a dedicated and committed team.

“Quality Service when you need it the Most”

We offer a vast array of services at 10 Medical Sites in Gauteng.  Click on the link below for more information.
General X-Rays

X- ray imaging remain the most widely used imaging modality, and is utilized for various indications including fractures, chest infections, abdominal disorders, and more.
The studies will be reported by expert radiologists.

CT Scan
A computerised tomography (CT) scan combines a series of X-ray images taken from different angles around your body and uses computer processing to create cross-sectional images (slices) of the bones, blood vessels and soft tissues inside your body. CT scan images provide more detailed information than plain X-rays do.
Coronary CTA

Coronary CTA, conducted at our Arwyp, Olivedale, Raslouw and Unitas branches is obtained with a multislice CT scan to create a CT angiogram of the coronary arteries. This modern non-invasive test is used to determine whether obstructive plaques have built up in the coronary arteries. Obstruction of the coronaries could lead to a heart attack.

MRI Scan
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of the inside of the body.

We offer a wide range of MRI studies at our practices, including high-end neuroimaging, spinal imaging, pelvic imaging, prostate imaging, hepatobiliary imaging and musculoskeletal imaging.

CT and MRI have complimentary, and very specific roles, in imaging of the body. Your doctor will know which of these techniques would be best suited for you.

Digital Mammography
Our Digital Mammography systems raise the standard of breast care in our community and allows our physicians to detect and diagnose breast cancer earlier and more precisely. Digital Mammography is superior to plain film mammography in detection of abnormalities. We offer breast tomography and vacuum assisted core biopsy services.
Ultrasound
Diagnostic ultrasound, also called sonography, is another way to create images of specific organs and structures. Ultrasound images are captured in real- time showing structure and movement of the body’s internal organs. We perform a wide range of sonographic examinations, ranging from abdominal studies, to musculoskeletal and vascular imaging.
Bone Densitometry
Bone densitometry (DEXA) (dual-energy-x-ray-absorptiometry) is an enhanced form of x-ray technology that is used to measure bone loss. DEXA is used to diagnose osteoporosis, a condition that more often affects women after menopause but may also be found in men. Osteoporosis involves a gradual loss of calcium, causing the bones to become thinner, more fragile and more likely to break. A DEXA test can be used to assess a patient’s risk for developing fractures, and determine if preventative treatment is needed.
Interventional Radiology

The intervention department at the Unitas Hospital in Centurion, Pretoria, specializes in neuro interventional radiology as well as general intervention.
The specialist radiology team consists of two radiologists, Dr Francois Potgieter and Dr Stefan Steyn.
The team also consists of specialized nursing and radiography staff who work exclusively in the intervention department.
Procedures are done in our specialized theatre with a state of the art Philips Allura Clarity Biplane neuro intervention suite. This equipment is designed to offer high quality images at a fraction of the radiation dose when compared to previous models.

Pediatric Services
Imaging of children is always a special privilege.  We pay special attention to the needs of our small patients.  Limiting of Radiation dose is prioritized during imaging studies as much as possible.  We perform a wide range of imaging studies including X-Rays, Ultrasound, Flouroscopy studies, CT imaging, MRI imaging and Interventional Radiology examinations.
Scan for Health

Scan for Health

We offer several options:
Cardiac assessment : the coronary vessels can be assessed to determine your cardiac vessel health status if there are known risk factors such as hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, or a family history of heart disease.
Brain assessment : A variety of options are available.
Male health assessment
Woman’s health assessment : for instance where there is a significant family history of breast cancer
Low dose lung CT: where applicable with relevant risk factors such as long term smoking history
Bone density assessment : low bone density poses the risk of fractures. The national osteoporosis foundation of South Africa ( NOFSA) has published guidelines for testing, available on their website
Body fat percentage: Very accurate assessment can be performed

Contact details for our branches are available under bookings.

Dynamic MRI Spine

We have installed an MRI with dynamic assessment capabilities at our Club Surgical practice.  This can be used to assess the spine in the standing position.

Advanced Ultrasound / CT / MRI

We offer advanced imaging services such as:

  • Cardiac CT including functional assessment
  • CT Colonoscopy
  • MRI studies of the liver with hepatocyte-specific contrast agent
  • CT angiography studies
  • Total body fat percentage
  • MR spectroscopy

Contact us for more information regarding these examinations.
